iPhone 11 vs iPhone 15 in 2026: Is It Time to Upgrade?

If your iPhone 11 still meets your needs and its battery is healthy, you do not necessarily need to upgrade immediately. But the iPhone 15 brings meaningful improvements in display quality, camera hardware, connectivity, performance efficiency and long-term usefulness.

This page is for existing iPhone 11 owners deciding whether the move to an iPhone 15 is worthwhile. For a general assessment of the older phone itself, read our iPhone 11 buying guide.

Design and everyday feel

The iPhone 11 has rounded aluminium edges and a glossy glass back. The iPhone 15 uses a flatter, more modern design with softer edge contours and a colour-infused matte-style back.

The newer phone also moves from Lightning to USB-C, which can simplify charging if your other devices already use USB-C.

Display

The iPhone 11 uses a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD. The iPhone 15 uses a 6.1-inch OLED display with much stronger contrast, higher brightness and Dynamic Island.

Both standard models use a 60Hz refresh rate, so the most noticeable improvement is image quality and outdoor visibility rather than smoother scrolling.

Performance and software longevity

The iPhone 11 uses the A13 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 15 uses the newer A16 Bionic. The iPhone 11 remains capable for everyday apps, but the iPhone 15 has more headroom for demanding tasks and a longer remaining hardware and software lifecycle.

We do not recommend upgrading based on a guessed future iOS end date. Instead, consider whether your iPhone 11 still runs the apps you need reliably and whether you plan to keep your next phone for several more years.

Camera improvements

The iPhone 11 has 12MP wide and ultra-wide rear cameras. The iPhone 15 adds a higher-resolution main camera, stronger low-light processing and more flexible cropping and zoom options.

For casual family photos and social media, the iPhone 11 can still be perfectly adequate. For buyers who care about detail, low-light shots or a more flexible camera system, the iPhone 15 is a noticeable step forward.

For more depth on the older model, see our iPhone 11 camera guide.

Battery and charging

Battery condition matters more than age alone. A worn iPhone 11 battery can make the upgrade feel more necessary than the processor or camera differences do.

The iPhone 15 benefits from a newer, more efficient platform and supports MagSafe as well as USB-C charging. If your iPhone 11 battery is still healthy and your usage is light, the practical difference may feel smaller.

Connectivity and features

The iPhone 11 is limited to 4G and does not support MagSafe. The iPhone 15 supports 5G, MagSafe, USB-C and Dynamic Island.

Those differences matter most if you specifically want faster mobile connectivity, a wider accessory ecosystem or a more modern display experience.

When upgrading makes sense

  • Your iPhone 11 battery is significantly worn
  • You want 5G, USB-C or MagSafe
  • You want a brighter OLED display
  • You take a lot of photos and want stronger low-light performance
  • You plan to keep your next phone for several years

When keeping the iPhone 11 still makes sense

  • It still runs your everyday apps smoothly
  • Battery condition is still good
  • You mainly use messaging, banking, browsing, streaming and social media
  • You do not need 5G or USB-C
  • You would rather delay the cost of upgrading

Verdict: should an iPhone 11 owner upgrade to an iPhone 15?

Upgrade if the newer display, camera, connectivity and longer remaining lifecycle matter to you. If your iPhone 11 still performs well and its battery is healthy, keeping it a little longer can still be reasonable.
